The Israel Defense Forces said eight rockets were launched from Rafah, in southern Gaza, toward central Israel on Sunday but that a number had been intercepted by the country’s Iron Dome defense system.
The Qassam rocket ( Ṣārūkh al-Qassām; also Kassam) is a simple, steel artillery rocket developed and deployed by the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military arm of Hamas.
Hamas’s military arm, the al-Qassam Brigades, said it had launched projectiles toward Tel Aviv, the first such barrage in four months, stating that the move was in response to “massacres perpetrated on civilians.”
