Two people were thrown into the ocean after a humpback whale landed on their fishing boat off the New Hampshire coast on Tuesday morning, and the entire incident was caught on video.
Ryland Kenney didn’t get much sleep on Tuesday because he kept picturing the mouth of a humpback whale.
Kenney, a fisherman, and his friend, Greg Paquette, were about two miles off the coast of New Hampshire when a 30-foot-long juvenile whale lobbed itself onto the back of their 23-foot motorboat, sending the bow of the boat skyward and Kenney and Paquette into the water.
They were initially rescued by nearby fishermen without injuries, and the dramatic flip was caught on video.
KINDLY WATCH THE BRIEF VIDEO OF THE UNEXPECTED COLLISION:
This was an accident,” she says. “The whale did not attack the boat.” It was “a collision between a whale 100 percent focused on feeding, and a fishing boat dead in the water (not making any noise),” she says. “In the video, you can see schooling fish jumping out of the water, and out of the whale's expanded mouth.”
