Scientists have Explored an intriguing new clues that a distant Exoplanet, K2-18b, might harbor life. Researchers at Cambridge University’s Institute of Astronomy are analyzing its atmosphere and have found molecules that; on Earth, are only produced by simple living organisms.
This marks the second and so far most promising detection of life-related chemicals in K2-18b’s atmosphere using NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope.

Using the James Webb Space Telescope, the team detected chemical fingerprints within the atmosphere of K2-18b that suggest the presence of dimethyl sulfide or DMS, and potentially dimethyl disulfide or DMDS. On Earth, both molecules are only produced by microbial life, typically marine phytoplankton.
However, the lead researcher, Professor Madhusudhan, and his team stress that more evidence is needed before any conclusions can be drawn, a point echoed by independent Astronomers.
