Family Planning it is Simply the set of educational counselling and clinical services that help couples make conscious effort to have a desired and manageable family size at the desired time.
W.H.O defines Family Planning as a way of Articulately thinking and living that is adopted voluntary upon the bases, elementary or the fundamental knowledge, attitudes and responsible decisions made by the specific individuals and couples in order or correspondance to promoting the Health and Welfare of the Family.
This include the methods and Practices used to space births limit family size and prevent unwanted pregnancies.Pregnancy by Choice and not by chance is a basic requirement for health.
MINISTRY OF HEALTH POLICY ON FAMILY PLANNING(FP)
1. Family planning should be a component of reproductive and child health of every health institution.
2. Family planning should be incorporated into the trainning Curriculum of all health personnel.
3. In-service training family planning should be given to all health personel according to their level of training.
4.The in-charge of reproductive and child health services in an approved MOH institution should be the co-ordinator of family planning services.
5. Every health facility providing family planning services should provide care for problems associated with or arising from the use of family planning methods including referrals to the nearest capable healthy facility.
THE RELEVANT AIMS OF FAMILY PLANNING
1.To provide information to individual couples to enable them decide freely and responsibly the number of children, and the spacing of their births.
2.To provide affordable contraceptive services and make available a full range of safe and effective methods.
3. To provide information on child bearing.4. To assist couples to bear children where possible.
IMPORTANCE OF FAMILY PLANNING IN THE MODERN ERA
1. Prevents unwanted pregnancy.
2. Spaces births or limit number of births.
3.Delays child bearing.
4. Ends child bearing when necessary or desired.
5.Manages infertility and other related issues.
