An expressway with bridges or tunnels accounting for 91% of its sections opened on Monday, marking the first direct expressway connecting southwest China's Chongqing with its northern neighbor Shaanxi.

The 48.7-km expressway, with 11 tunnels and 20 bridges including the highest arch bridge in southwest China, has a designed speed of 80 km/h and is expected to reduce road travel between Wuxi County in Chongqing and Zhenping County in Shaanxi from over three hours to within an hour.
