Saudi Arabia is building another architectural marvel, the Mukaab, a massive cube-shaped skyscraper in Riyadh. The Mukaab will stand 400 meters (1,312 feet) tall, wide, and long, making it large enough to fit 20 Empire State Buildings inside, according to the Saudi Public Investment Fund. Bloomberg also reports it will be the world’s largest building.
The Mukaab will be the centerpiece of the New Murabba district, with a design inspired by traditional Islamic architecture and 2 million square meters of interior space. Inside, a large twisting tower will rise, and holographic technology will create underwater and otherworldly scenes.
Excavation is almost complete, with 10 million cubic meters [roughly 350 million cubic ft] of earth already moved using 250 excavators and 400 pieces of equipment. Completion is expected by 2030.
