Japan was home to the incredible Harmonized Scenic Seagaia Ocean Dome in Miyazaki, once the world’s largest "indoor Beach".
This massive tropical-themed facility offered a fully controlled climate all year round, maintaining a constant "30°C air temperature" and "28°C water temperature", no matter the season. With soft marble-sand beaches, artificial waves, and even a man-made volcano as well as a dome gave visitors a surreal beach experience indoors.
It could accommodate up to 10,000 people and had a retractable roof that simulated blue skies.
Though it was closed in 2007 and demolished in 2017 due to high costs and low footfall, it remains a legendary example of innovation in leisure and entertainment.
