WNBA CHAMPIONSHIP LEAGUE SUMMARY-UPDATE:
Chicago Sky Superstar Angel Reese prepares for the inaugural season of the Unrivaled basketball league, her team also gave her a new nickname.
During her stint at LSU, Reese was called the "Bayou Barbie," which she said was because of her routine of wearing makeup before playing a game. After she was drafted seventh overall by the Sky in 2024, that nickname became "Chi Barbie."
This WNBA offseason, while she's in Miami where the Unrivaled league is set to kick off, Reese got a nickname courtesy of Rose BC—the WNBA All-Star's squad in the newly established 3-on-3 basketball league.
Similar to how her previous nicknames have changed based on the location she's playing, Reese was dubbed "305 Barbie" by Rose BC. The team shared the moniker alongside a video of Reese working out with her Unrivaled teammates.
"305 BARBIE LOCKED IN," Rose BC wrote, with "305" referring to Miami's area code.
Unrivaled officially starts its first season on Jan. 17 and runs through March 17. TNT and truTV are broadcasting all games
There are a total of six teams in the league. Angel Reese is part of Rose BC alongside Chelsea Gray, Brittney Sykes, Kahleah Copper and Lexie Hull. They are coached by Nola Henry
Reese and her squad will play in the season opener, as they are pitted against Vinyl BC, which features Arike Ogunbowale, Jordin Canada, Rhyne Howard, Rae Burrell, Aliyah Boston and Dearica Hamby. Interestingly, the said team is coached by Reese's former Sky coach, Teresa Weatherspoon.
