STEPHEN CURRY APPEALS FOR BRITTNEY GRINER'S RELEASE ''WE ARE BG''

NBA/WNBA SUMMARY-UPDATES:

The Golden State Warriors star’s comments before a packed house were part of a coordinated campaign by sports figures to speak about the American basketball player

Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors offered support to Brittney Griner, the American basketball player serving a prison sentence in Russia, saying he hoped everyone was doing their part to bring her home.

Mr. Curry, a star shooter, denounced Ms. Griner’s incarceration during his team’s championship ring ceremony. His statements were part of a coordinated campaign for sports figures—including Billie Jean King, Abby Wambach and WNBA players—to speak about Ms. Griner’s detention.

U.S. women’s basketball star Brittney Griner was sentenced to nine years in a Russian prison in early August after being convicted of bringing marijuana with criminal intent into the country in February. Griner’s lawyers said they would file an appeal.
