Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin has announced earlier in the week that his country would maintain an open-ended presence in the Gaza Strip for security purposes.

The U.S. has strongly backed Israel in its war against Hamas. However, the two allies have not been on the same page over what will happen once the conflict winds down in Gaza.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced earlier in the week that his country would maintain an open-ended presence in the Gaza Strip for security purposes. He also ruled out a role for the Palestinian Authority in governing Gaza.

The Palestinian Authority was ousted from the Strip in 2007 and currently only governs in the occupied West Bank. There has been reported talks from Israeli officials calling for imposing a buffer zone in Gaza aimed at keeping Palestinians away from their border.

A much different vision was laid out by the U.S. where top officials from the Biden administration have said that the reoccupation of Gaza by Israel will not be allowed nor will the shrinking of its territory.

The U.S. has also called for the return of the rule of the Palestinian Authority to Gaza and a two-state solution to the conflict.
