TORONTO — Bowing to pressure from opponents and allies alike,Mr. Justin Trudeau — whose championing of progressive politics rocketed him into the international spotlight as Canada’s prime minister but who has faced growing headwinds at home — announced that he intends to resign as Liberal leader, making way for a new prime minister.
Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday said during her concession speech that she told President-elect Donald Trump there will be a peaceful transition of power. "President Donald J. Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris spoke by phone earlier today where she congratulated him on his historic victory," Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung said in a statement.
On Wednesday, the White House said that President Biden called Trump to congratulate him on winning the presidency. The White House added that President Biden had invited President-elect Trump to the White House to begin the transfer of power.
